The town of Allen, Texas was established in 1870. It was a railroad stop for the Houston & Texas Railroads. This helped connect the railway with nearby farms. The very first railway dam that was used to facilitate the railway is still around at Exchange Park. In 1872, the town was named after former Texas attorney general and railroad promoter Ebenezer Allen.
Allen, Texas has a unique & fascinating history. The infamous train robber, Sam Bass, led a gang of robbers to commit what is believed to have been the first train robbery in the state of Texas. The date was February 22, 1878, & the location was at a railroad crossing that was on what we now know as McDermott.
